Internet Safety Important

Special Constable Randi Hall (left) from the Chatham-Kent Police Service presented a program about internet safety. The internet is a most important communication tool, but can be one of the most dangerous. She commented on the following concerns:

a)   - hacking, by which an identity can be compromised

b)   - dangerous websites that contain dangerous, violent or pornographic material

c)    - luring  of youth by predators

d)   - use of the internet by children without supervision

e)    - collecting information about an individual from a variety of sources

f)     - blogs provide a vehicle for cyber-bullying

g)    - information posted on social sites will be viewed by millions of people and it  can be used against you

h)   - webcams can cause inappropriate material to be uploaded

i)     - MYSpace and MSN allow individuals to create web pages that are not pre-screened.. However, youth often gain access by lying about their ages.

j)    -  Cell phones with camera capabilities introduce anther level of concern

k)    - Facebook entries can jeopardize your privacy and if you indicate you will be going somewhere, people know your home may be vacant. Privacy settings are important.

 - Special Constable Randi Hall referred to specific cases involving an internet predator (Mark Bedford) from Kingston.

Dresden Rotarian Paul Weese (right) thanked her and asked her to sign a book for the library program.

Group Study Exchange visit from Japan

On Monday, May 5, 2010, about 170 Rotarians gathered to hear presentation from the outbound and inbound Group Study Exchange teams for Japan. It was a great evening and very well done.

Dresden hosted the team on Monday and had tours of Uncle Toms Cabin and Cedar line Green House's. They where a bunch of great people and they enjoyed their day in Dresden.

Nicole Melton has been with the team every day assisting with translating.

The team is heading for Niagara Falls on Friday and on Saturday will return to the USA.

There was as many people here at this presentation as there was at the District Conference!
