What is Rotary

Paul P. Harris, founder of Rotary

Four Way Test

of these things we think, say or do....
   1. Is it the TRUTH?
   2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
   3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP?
   4. Will it BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The first meeting of Rotary took place in Chicago, on February 23, 1905. Our founder called the meeting, with three others, in the spirit of friendship and understanding. Initially, the four Rotarians that met on that historic occasion, met in rotation at their various business locations and this led to the name "Rotary".

The ides of Paul Harris and his friends are the basis of our Rotary ideals which have been accepted by business and professional people around the world. The general objectives of every Rotary club are the same.

Object of Rotary

To encourage and foster the ideal of service as the basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

1. The development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service.

2. High ethical standards in business and professionals, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of their occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

3. The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian in their personal, business and community life.

4. The advancement of international understanding, good will and peace through world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
